Few horsemen in North America have as much international experience as Tres Abbott. He’s worked for some of the world’s top trainers travelling the world for the biggest races. Today, he’s a multiple graded stakes winning trainer, operating his own stable out of the famed Fair Hill Training Center in Elkton, Maryland.

A native of West Chester, Pa.,Tres hotwalked and groomed horses as a teenager at nearby Fair Hill before leaving the Mid Atlantic for university in Britain. It was there he met bloodstock agent Charlie Gordon-Watson, and for the next few years, Tres assisted him at auctions and with brokering private purchases. After graduation, Tres moved to Ireland to work as a foreman for Aidan O’Brien at Ballydoyle where he often accompanied runners to international races. In 2008, he took a string of horses to Australia to compete in the Melbourne Cup.

Tres then moved on to Sir Michael Stoute’s Freemason Lodge yard in Newmarket. There he had the privilege of working with some of Stoute’s best horses including Breeders’ Cup winner Conduit and globetrotter Spanish Moon. Upon returning to America, Tres assisted Todd Pletcher at his Palm Meadows barn helping to develop two-year-olds before going out on his own in 2010.

Top horses in Tres’ barn have included graded stakes winners Nellie Cashman and Medea and listed stakes winner Jessica Krupnick.
